Moved to Springfield, Mo in 1975 to attend college. Met my husband a couple of years later and after 6 weeks got married in 1977. We've been married for almost 34 years now. I continued with my 15 year plan for obtaining a BA and worked fulltime while my husband finished an MA.

In 1982 we moved to Los Angeles with my husband's work and I continued in my career as an early childhood teacher and director. I finally finished a BA in Business Administration in 1991 at the same time my husband finished up an MBA at UCLA. in 1997 I completed a Masters in Education and in 2001 after 27 years in the Early Childhood field moved on to teaching Child Development and Education at the community college level.

In 2002 I started work on a PhD in Early Childhood Development. I put this on hold for a bit and completed a second masters degree in education with a concentration in early childhood education.

My husband works as a Chief Financial Officer while I continue to work as an adjunct college professor between three colleges. We also have my youngest brother who is an adult with mental retardation that lives with us fulltime. He is at the cognitive level of a preschooler so I have my own perpetual preschooler. We have tons of fun! I have two dogs and live in a great area called Rancho Cucamonga about 25 miles east of Los Angeles.

2011 has been an interesting year for me. In January I was diagnosed with uterine cancer and underwent a radical hysterectomy followed by chemotherapy. I just had my last treatment a week ago and now will be focusing on getting back my strength and energy so I can hopefully get back to work soon. God has been so faithful through this whole process and I have gained a new understanding regarding the difficulties people with long term illnesses face on a daily basis. The prognosis looks good and through the grace of God I will be able to continue to face life with renewed vigor and passion.

BTW would love to have some more FaceBook friends. Look me up under Susan M. Spicher

So here we are in January 2012 and I have begun a whole new set of adventures. I have taken a position as Education Program Director/Early Childhood Instructor at South Arkansas Community College. My energy and strength are back to about 90% + and I continue to do well regarding my health. Why Arkansas? Don't know, it was the door that opened wide and everything just fell into place. Like I said it is a new adventure!

I've been loving living in Arkansas. More health adventures. In November 2012 I was diagnosed with a recurrence of endometrial cancer. In December I went to MD Anderson Cancer Center and had a daily series of radiation treatments and 6 more rounds of chemotherapy over a 2 month period. I am doing well. I'm back home in Arkansas now and getting my strength back a little bit more every day. Still two months until I get scans to see how things have worked, but I believe God is a 100% healer. He is in control.

About time to update my life. God is still on the throne. Here we are finding ourselves with the COVID-19 situation. At this point we are all doing well.

In November we will have our 43rd wedding anniversary. We are still in Arkansas, but really looking forward to retirement for both of us. My husband is retiring this year. Since I last updated I had another recurrence of endometrial cancer in 2014. Another round of chemo and now in January got my 5 year clear check up. I am believing that I am healed of this pesky thing.

A year ago I had gastric sleeve surgery. I spent pretty much my whole life fighting this weight battle and it was just way out of control. So I chose a different king of tool to help with getting healthy. I have gotten rid of 190#. Not to my goal weight yet, but I am feeling so much better. My knees need to be replaced, but weight first. I am only 20 pounds away from my marriage weight.
